Baragada: Several young men and women have alleged that they were duped by an organisation that promised them jobs at a steel plant but instead forced them into marketing work after bringing them to Baragada.
According to the complainants, they had responded to recruitment offers for jobs in a steel plant.
However, after reaching the location, they were allegedly made to undergo training for chain marketing activities instead of being provided the promised employment.
The victims lodged a complaint at the Baragada Town Police Station after suspecting that the recruitment drive was fraudulent.
Acting on the complaint, police have detained one person for questioning and launched an investigation into the alleged racket.
The complainants alleged that they were cheated of varying amounts in the name of securing jobs. While some claimed to have paid ₹11,000, others alleged they lost ₹24,000 and ₹30,000.
The victims further alleged that they were housed in a hostel where they were harassed while being trained for marketing work under the guise of steel plant employment.
With their savings exhausted, many of the affected youths said they are now worried about arranging money to return to their homes.
Police are investigating the allegations. No official statement has been issued by the police on the matter so far.
