Bhubaneswar: Several districts of Odisha received heavy to very heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours due to low pressure over Bay of Bengal.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), very heavy rainfall was recorded at seven stations while heavy rainfall occurred at 19 stations till 8:30 am on Saturday. The highest rainfall was recorded at Sohela in Bargarh district, which received an impressive 202 mm of rain. This was followed by Ganjam station with 145.4 mm and Barapali in Bargarh with 145 mm.
Other places that recorded significant rainfall include Bijepur in Bargarh (126 mm), Salebhatta in Bolangir (122 mm), Purusottampur in Ganjam (115.6 mm) and Mahendragarh in Gajapati (110.2 mm).This widespread rainfall activity is attributed to the well-marked low-pressure area lying over the Northwest Bay of Bengal.
The system is expected to remain active over the next few days, bringing more rain to different parts of the state.
The IMD has advised people to stay alert, especially in low-lying areas, due to the possibility of waterlogging and localized flooding.
