Bhubaneswar: Former minister Damburudhar Majhi passed away while undergoing treatment at the ICU of the Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital. He was suffering from old age related ailments.
Between 1967 and 1990, Majhi served in the state cabinet four times as Minister for Transport, Finance and Culture. He was elected to the Odisha Assembly from the erstwhile Kodigan, now Dabugam, Assembly constituency.
Majhi was associated with Swatantra Party, Indian National Congress, Biju Janata Dal and the BJP during his long political career. In 2009, he contested the Nabarangpur Lok Sabha seat on a BJD ticket and lost. In October 2018, he left the BJD and joined the BJP.
