Balangir: An alleged sex racket operating in Balangir town was busted by police with the arrest of a couple and five other persons, while nine women were rescued during the operation, officials said.
According to reports, the racket allegedly involved arranging women for prostitution at different hotels in and around Balangir. Police launched an investigation after a minor girl was allegedly found to be pregnant, which subsequently led to the detection of the suspected network.
During the probe, police allegedly found that a couple was coordinating the racket and facilitating the movement of women to various hotels. Acting on the information gathered during the investigation, police conducted raids at suspected locations and apprehended the couple along with five others allegedly associated with the operation.
Nine women were rescued during the police action. Most of them are residents of West Bengal.
Police are now probing the suspected network to ascertain the duration of its operation, how the women were brought to Balangir and whether other persons were involved in the racket. Investigators are also examining the alleged involvement of hotels and individuals linked to the suspected operation.
The arrested persons are being interrogated and further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, police said.
