Bhubaneswar: So far a total of 41 deaths due to sunstroke have been confirmed in this season in Odisha by the State government.
“Cumulatively 159 deaths were reported. Out of these, 41 have been confirmed to be due to sunstroke. These deaths have been confirmed after the conduct of post-mortem and joint inquiry. 73 cases are under investigation while post-mortem could not be conducted in 10-15 cases as their families took away the bodies. 45 cases have been rejected as not due to sunstroke,” informed Dr Nilakantha Mishra, Director, Public Health.
Dr Mishra said that on Sunday as many as 16 suspected sunstroke cases were reported in the State and fortunately there were no deaths.
A total of 2269 heatwave cases have been treated and discharged this season, Dr Mishra added.
