Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has chosen Sujeet Kumar as its nominee for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-election from Odisha. Kumar, who joined the BJP in September after resigning from the Rajya Sabha and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), has received the nod from the party’s Central Election Committee.
According to reports, Kumar is likely to file his nomination papers for the Upper House today. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and BJP State president Manmohan Samal are expected to be present during the nomination process.
Earlier in the day, Kumar met with BJP State president and other senior leaders at the party’s state headquarters in Bhubaneswar to discuss his candidature. Kumar’s term as a Rajya Sabha member was set to end on April 2, 2026, but he resigned on September 6 and joined the BJP. The BJD subsequently expelled him, terming his actions as anti-party.
