Bhawanipatna: A Booth Level Officer (BLO) engaged in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has been suspended for alleged negligence in duty in Kalahandi district.

The suspended official, Madhusudan Behera, is a teacher at Boringpadar Upper Primary School under Narla and was serving as a BLO during the voter list revision exercise.

According to official sources, the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) and Narla Tahsildar had repeatedly instructed Behera to carry out his assigned responsibilities and remain present on duty. He was also contacted several times over the phone and directed to perform his duties diligently.

Despite repeated warnings and instructions, Behera allegedly failed to attend to his responsibilities and did not report for duty as required, sources said.

Taking serious note of the alleged negligence and dereliction of government duty, Kalahandi Collector Sachin Pawar ordered disciplinary action against the official. Following the Collector’s direction, the Narla Tahsildar issued the suspension order on Monday.

District officials stated that strict action would be taken against personnel found neglecting duties related to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, a key exercise being carried out ahead of future elections.
