Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours, with the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar recording significant downpours in many districts.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Boudh district recorded the highest rainfall in the state with 168.0 mm at Boudhgarh station. This was followed by Lamataput in Koraput district which received 151.2 mm, Birmaharajpur in Sonepur with 137.0 mm, and Kantamala in Boudh with 122.0 mm.
The IMD reported that four stations received very heavy rainfall while as many as 22 stations recorded heavy rainfall. Notable amounts were also recorded in Cuttack (Banki) at 104 mm, Athamalik in Angul at 101 mm, Barapali in Baragarh at 100 mm, and several other areas.
The fresh spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to bring relief to agricultural activities across the state. However, it may also cause temporary waterlogging in low-lying and urban areas. The IMD has urged people to remain cautious of possible inundation in vulnerable locations.
The IMD has indicated that rainfall activity is likely to continue in parts of Odisha over the next few days.
