Sora (Baleshwar): The Excise Department seized 235 grams of brown sugar, valued at around ₹24 lakh, during a raid near Raipur Chhak under Sora police station limits in Baleshwar district and arrested a man in connection with the seizure, officials said.
The arrested accused was identified as Aftar Shah of Chhatrapur village under Sora police station. He was subsequently produced before a court.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a special team led by Anita Sahu, Officer-in-Charge of Sora Model Excise Station, and Prahallad Samal, Officer-in-Charge of Khaira Excise Station, conducted the raid and intercepted Shah.
The team recovered 235 grams of brown sugar from his possession and also seized a motorcycle allegedly used in the offence. The combined estimated value of the seized contraband and vehicle is over ₹24 lakh, the Excise Department said.
Excise Sub-Inspector Basant Barik and constables Debashish Mallick, Shashikanta Sahu and Minati Parida were among those involved in the operation.
