Bhubaneswar: The State Cabinet has approved the “MMSY-Connecting Missing Road Links (CMRL)” scheme to strengthen inter-block, inter-district and interstate road connectivity across Odisha.
The 5-year programme will be implemented from 2025-26 to 2029-30 with a total outlay of Rs 1,917 crore. Under CMRL, approximately 3,850 km of roads will be taken up to bridge crucial missing links.
The Cabinet has also approved completion of all ongoing projects under the scheme and construction of connecting bridges/small CD works wherever required.
According to the government, the scheme aims to improve connectivity to unconnected islands and bordering areas.
It will shorten travel distance between different blocks, districts and with neighboring States by connecting state roads to roads in adjoining states.
The upgraded network is also expected to provide better access to health and education facilities including hospitals, schools, colleges, panchayats, markets, tourist destinations, and trade and commerce centers.
Officials said the project will help improve the overall living standards of people in remote and border areas by linking them more effectively to essential services and economic opportunities.
With Cabinet approval in place, the Rural Development Department will now begin execution of the projects in phases.
