Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has welcomed the recent amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), describing them as a much-needed step to ensure foreign funds are used only for their declared purposes with utmost transparency and accountability.
In a detailed post, CM Majhi stated that by introducing stricter disclosure norms, mandatory identification of ultimate donors, field verification of fund utilisation, enhanced monitoring mechanisms, and a clear ban on proselytization, the Government of India has significantly strengthened the FCRA framework.
The Chief Minister emphasised that these reforms convey a strong message: India remains open to genuine developmental, educational, and welfare activities funded from abroad, but will not allow foreign contributions to be misused for hidden agendas, ideological propagation, or actions detrimental to national interests.
“These amendments reinforce transparency, accountability and responsible utilisation of foreign contributions while safeguarding India’s sovereignty, social harmony and cultural ethos,” Majhi said.
He further attributed the decisive reforms to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that under his guidance, the country is taking firm steps to protect national unity, strengthen institutional integrity, and ensure foreign contributions genuinely contribute to nation-building and public welfare.
The Centre’s recent tightening of FCRA rules has sparked widespread discussion, with the government asserting that the changes will curb misuse of foreign funds while facilitating legitimate charitable and developmental work.
