Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday laid the foundation stones for the construction of 204 Godabarisha Mishra Model Primary Schools across the state, as part of a major initiative to strengthen primary education infrastructure.
Speaking at a function near Jatni in Khordha district, the Chief Minister said primary education is the foundation of a student’s career, adding that a strong base leads to a brighter future.
The state government has launched the Godabarisha Mishra Model Primary School scheme to improve learning outcomes and upgrade infrastructure in government primary schools. Majhi said the initiative aims to create a more structured and conducive educational environment, while also integrating technology to ensure quality learning for children.
He further emphasised that in today’s rapidly evolving job market, students must be equipped not only with academic knowledge but also with practical skills that enhance employability, innovation, and problem-solving abilities.
The Chief Minister had earlier launched the scheme in January at Banpur in Khordha district, the birthplace of educationist Pandit Godabarisha Mishra, when foundation stones were laid for 118 schools.
Under the first phase of the programme, 2,200 model schools are planned across the state with an investment of Rs 12,000 crore. Of these, construction work on 322 schools has already commenced.
Majhi also informed that 26,615 teachers and non-teaching staff have been appointed in the last two years, while recruitment for another 45,000 teachers is underway and expected to be completed over the next three years.
School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, and Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari also addressed the gathering. Several Members of Parliament and MLAs participated virtually in the event.
