Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday strongly criticised the Opposition over the defeat of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament, calling it a “betrayal of Nari Shakti and the aspirations of an inclusive India.”
Reacting on social media platform X, Majhi said the Opposition’s alleged obstruction of the Bill in the Lok Sabha reflected a “brazen attempt” to deny women their rightful constitutional space. He accused them of prioritising politics over progress and undermining a landmark reform aimed at empowering women.
“The opposition’s shameful obstruction of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha today is a brazen betrayal of Nari Shakti and the aspirations of an inclusive India. By prioritizing petty politics over progress, they have attempted to deny women their rightful constitutional place. History will record this disruption, and those who stood in the way of this landmark reform will be held accountable by the women of this country,” Majhi said on social media platform X.
Earlier in the day, while addressing a Nari Shakti Vandan programme in Angul, the Chief Minister said that opposition to the Bill amounted to disrespect towards women’s empowerment in India. He asserted that any resistance to strengthening women’s rights would not be forgiven by society, particularly by women themselves.
Majhi reiterated that the government remains committed to ensuring greater participation of women in governance and decision-making through constitutional and policy measures.
