Jagatsinghpur: A couple reportedly died due to a deafening explosion that occurred at their residence at Badabag village under Sadar police limits in Jagatsinghpur late Friday night.
The explosion took place while the couple identified as Rajesh Das and his wife Rani Das were busy manufacturing crude bombs at their house.
According to reports, the blast was so powerful that it destroyed a significant portion of the house, trapping several family members under the debris. The neighbours woke up to the explosion in Rajesh’s house which was razed to the ground.
Two others, Rajesh’s brother Paresh Das and his wife Laxmipriya, were critically injured in the explosion and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The police, fire department, and ODRAF team promptly responded to the emergency and conducted a rescue operation that lasted for two and half hours.
The district administration and Jagatsinghpur police have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the explosion and whether the explosives were stored legally or illegally.
The Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police stated that a thorough investigation would be conducted to ascertain the facts surrounding the explosion.
