Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood around July 3.
According to the IMD, an upper air cyclonic circulation is currently persisting over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Bangladesh between 1.5 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level. This system is tilting southwestwards with height.
Under the influence of this cyclonic circulation, the low-pressure area is expected to develop in the coming days. The system is likely to bring increased rainfall activity over Odisha and parts of eastern India in the coming week.
Further tracking and intensity of the system will be closely monitored by the meteorological department. People are advised to stay updated with weather bulletins, especially those living in coastal and low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, several districts of Odisha experienced intense rainfall activity during the last 24 hours, with four stations recording very heavy rainfall, according to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday.
