Malkangiri: Malkangiri police on Wednesday arrested a youth for allegedly cheating two young men of the district of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of providing them with jobs as educational assistants
Malkangari police station IIC Reg N Kindo informed that he was arrested and produced in court today.
According to the police, Elohim Kawashi of Shikhapali village under Malkangari police limits and Arjun Khara of Malkangari Jhatimati Colony applied for jobs as educational assistants in 2022. Both of them were repeatedly called by a man impersonating OSS SC Bhubaneswar staff. He told them that they were considered eligible for the job and would be required to pay Rs 4.15 lakh. Arjun Khara was informed by email saying that he could join the job within two months.
Another person named Lingaraj Mahanand of Mundpada village of Boudh district cheated them of Rs 1.70 lakh. Elohim and Arjun had reported the matter to the police as they did not get the jobs. Subsequently, a case was registered at the Malkangiri police station.
On the instructions of Malkangari SP Nitesh Wadhwani, a special police team was formed under the leadership of Kindo to nab the fraudsters. Finally, the team arrested Lingaraj Mahanand from Mundapada village in Boudh district and brought him to Malkangiri police station.
Malkangari police IIC Kindo informed that the accused Lingraj Mahanand was arrested under Section 419/420 IPC and produced in court today.
