Bhadrak: A married woman is in a critical condition after allegedly attempting self-immolation in Bhadrak district of Odisha on Tuesday.
The woman, identified as Pratima Sahoo, sustained around 60 per cent burn injuries after she reportedly poured kerosene on herself and set herself ablaze in front of her father’s house at Padhuan village under Basudevpur police station limits.
She was initially rushed to the Basudevpur Community Health Centre (CHC) in a critical condition and later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Bhadrak, for advanced treatment. Doctors attending on her said she has suffered severe burn injuries and remains critical.
According to reports, Sahoo had got married a few years ago in the Tudigadia area under Soro police station in Balasore district. However, following a marital dispute, she had been living separately from her husband, and the matter is currently under trial in a court.
After returning to her parental home, she allegedly developed a relationship with a youth from the same village and had been living with him. On Tuesday, following an alleged dispute, she came to her father’s house, poured kerosene on herself and set herself on fire.
