Bhubaneswar: Congress candidate for the Nuapada Assembly by-election, Ghasiram Majhi, cast his vote at a polling booth in the constituency on Tuesday and urged the people to actively participate in the democratic process.
Speaking after casting his vote, Majhi expressed satisfaction over the peaceful conduct of polling.
“I am happy to have cast my vote. The polling is proceeding peacefully across all booths. I urge the people of Nuapada to exercise their right to vote. I have been serving the people of Nuapada for around 40 years through political and social work. The people know my contributions and I hope they will support me with their votes,” he said.
The Nuapada Assembly by-election was necessitated following the demise of sitting BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has fielded Snehangini Chhuria, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Jay Dholakia, son of the late MLA.
Polling is underway amid tight security, with a voter turnout of approximately 32.51 percent recorded by 11 am.
