Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha continued to experience intense heat on Monday, with eight places recording maximum temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or above even as Kalabaisakhi thunderstorms brought some relief to other areas.
Bhubaneswar recorded 40.7°C, while Sambalpur and Talcher touched 40.0°C. Bhawanipatna reported 41.0°C, Bolangir 40.1°C, Sonepur 40.9°C, and Boudh 41.5°C. The highest temperature was recorded in Titlagarh at 42.0°C. In contrast, many other places stayed below the 40-degree mark due to rainfall and thunderstorm activity associated with Kalabaisakhi.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Warning for Tuesday, urging people to be prepared to take action. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 50-60 kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, and Gajapati.
A Yellow Warning has also been issued, advising people to remain aware. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are expected in the afternoon or evening hours at isolated places over districts including Bargarh, Deogarh, Sonepur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Sambalpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawrangpur, and Rayagada. Hot and humid conditions are also likely to prevail at isolated places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh.
Similar warnings were active for Monday, with Orange alerts covering several coastal and northern districts and Yellow alerts highlighting the risk of thunderstorms and hot, humid weather in many parts of the state.
