Odisha To Set Up Four New Universities, Announces CM Majhi

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday announced to establish four new universities in the State while presenting the annual Budget for 2026–27 in the Odisha Legislative Assembly.

The proposed universities will come up at the district headquarters of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak and Jharsuguda, marking a significant expansion of higher education infrastructure in the state.

While tabling the Budget, Majhi said the new institutions would be designed to adopt innovative teaching methodologies from the outset. Emphasising alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, he stated that the universities would offer multidisciplinary courses, ensuring flexibility and a holistic approach to learning.

The Chief Minister noted that starting afresh would allow these universities to integrate modern academic frameworks and technology-enabled learning systems from day one. The move is expected to enhance access to quality higher education in the respective regions and reduce the need for students to migrate to other districts or states for advanced studies.

The announcement is seen as part of the state government’s broader push to strengthen Odisha’s education ecosystem and bring higher education opportunities closer to students across districts.
