Bhubaneswar: Western Odisha continued to sizzle under intense heatwave conditions as Sambalpur recorded the highest temperature of 41.2°C at 11:30 am, making it the hottest place in the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded a scorching 41.2°C in Sambalpur at 11:30 am while Jharsuguda followed closely with a scorching 40.6°C, while Hirakud registered 39.6°C during the same period.
Even the state capital Bhubaneswar recorded a high of 35°C at 11:30 am, adding to the discomfort of residents due to the prevailing high humidity.
The latest IMD weather report clearly shows that western and northern parts of Odisha are bearing the maximum brunt of the ongoing heatwave. Temperatures in these regions have consistently remained above 39°C, causing significant hardship for people working outdoors, particularly in government departments, agriculture, and construction sectors.
The IMD has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun between 11 am and 4 pm.
