Thunderstorms With Lightning, Gusty Winds Likely In Odisha Tomorrow: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds in several parts of Odisha tomorrow (June 8), issuing orange and yellow weather alerts for multiple districts across the state.

According to IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching speeds of 50–60 kmph are very likely to occur at isolated places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts. An orange warning has been issued for these areas.

The weather office has also issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph, likely during the afternoon and evening hours at isolated places over Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh districts.

In addition to storm activity, warm night conditions are likely to prevail at isolated places over Boudh, Bolangir, and Kalahandi districts. Hot and humid conditions are expected to persist over several coastal and interior districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Boudh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh.

The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious, particularly during outdoor activities, and to follow safety guidelines during thunderstorm conditions. It has also indicated that similar weather conditions may continue in parts of the state on the following day.
