Bhubaneswar: Incessant rain over the last two days triggered by a low-pressure system has disrupted communication to the Lord Chandrashekhar shrine atop Kapilash hill in Dhenkanal district after a huge tree was uprooted on the Kapilas Ghati road.
The fallen tree has completely blocked vehicular movement on the ghati road, leaving many tourists and pilgrims stranded on the mountain peak. Due to heavy rainfall, a large number of devotees had preferred the ghati road route to visit the famous shrine. With the road now blocked, devotees are being forced to climb over 1,500 stairs to reach the temple atop the hill.
Fire services personnel from Gondia reached the spot and are working to clear the road by cutting down the fallen trees.
Officials said restoration work is underway and efforts are being made to reopen the ghati road for vehicular traffic at the earliest. The district administration has also advised pilgrims to exercise caution while climbing the stairs amid the ongoing rains.
