Bhubaneswar: North Odisha and coastal areas are likely to witness intense rainfall due to a low-pressure system formed in the Bay of Bengal and its surrounding areas, according to the prediction of the India Meteorological Department on Saturday.
According to the IMD forecast, heavy rainfall is expected to continue in the state till July 31. Therefore, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
Going by the latest weather update made by IMD, ten districts such as Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Bargarh, Cuttack and Nayagarh are likely to experience heavy rainfall today.
For Sunday, the regional weather office forecasts heavy rainfall expected in one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Koraput districts. These districts are likely to receive rainfall of 7-11 cm. IMD has issued a yellow warning to these districts.
A yellow warning has been issued for heavy rainfall in parts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur districts on Monday, with rainfall ranging from 7-11 cm.
According to Tuesday’s prediction of IMD, heavy to hefty rainfall is expected in one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, and Jajpur districts, with rainfall ranging from 12-20 cm. Similarly, heavy rainfall is expected in one or two places in Balasore, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, and Angul districts, with rainfall ranging from 7-11 cm. A yellow warning has been issued to these areas for this reason.
Meanwhile, the Odisha government directed the Collectors of 13 districts to review the preparedness measures because of the low pressure over the North Bay of Bengal that may trigger heavy rain in parts of Odisha for the next five days.
The districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul have been alerted by the Special Relief Commissioner.
