Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Western Odisha continued to receive extremely heavy rainfall under the influence of the cyclonic depression, with Sonepur station recording the highest rainfall in the state.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) data for the last 24 hours, Sonepur station received a massive 328.4 mm of rainfall. Other notable recordings include Ullunda in Sonpur district with 290.0 mm, Belgaon in Balangir with 279.0 mm, and Telkoi in Keonjhar with 276.6 mm.

Significant rainfall was also recorded at several other stations, including Khairmal in Boudh with 258.0 mm, Burla in Sambalpur with 256.4 mm, Kantamal in Boudh with 246.8 mm, Ghasipura in Keonjhar with 246.2 mm, and Hatadihi in Keonjhar with 241.5 mm.

Many stations in Subarnapur, Sambalpur, Balangir, Boudh, Keonjhar, Baragarh, Kandhamal, and other western districts recorded rainfall exceeding 100 mm in the last 24 hours.

The intense spell of rain has led to waterlogging in low-lying areas, disruption of normal life, and prompted the closure of schools in multiple districts as a precautionary measure.

The district administrations have, meanwhile, appealed to people to exercise caution and avoid venturing into waterlogged zones.
