Bhubaneswar: A severe heatwave continued to sweep across parts of western Odisha on Tuesday, with western districts bearing the brunt of extreme temperatures, according to the 2:30 PM temperature update issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.

Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest place in the state, recording a scorching 44.4°C, followed by Sambalpur at 43.4°C and Hirakud at 43.0°C. Rourkela also experienced intense heat at 39.0°C, while Keonjhar recorded 39.4°C.

In contrast, coastal regions remained relatively cooler due to higher humidity levels. Chandbali registered 37.4°C, while Balasore recorded 35.4°C. The state capital Bhubaneswar reported 33.8°C with 60% humidity.

Temperatures in coastal belt locations such as Paradip (30.2°C), Gopalpur (30.4°C), and Puri (31.2°C) stayed lower but were accompanied by high humidity levels of around 76%, leading to discomfort among residents.

The stark contrast between dry heat in western Odisha and humid conditions along the coast highlights varying weather patterns across the state. IMD officials have advised people, especially in interior districts, to avoid exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours and stay hydrated.
