Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance today arrested one Manoj Kumar Behera, Executive Engineer, Drainage Division, Gandarpur, Cuttack for possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 4,26,44,941 which constitutes 508 per cent of his known sources of income.
According to a press release issued by the Vigilance, Behera was arrested and forwarded to the court as he could not account for the assets satisfactorily.
The Vigilance has registered a case against Behera and his spouse under sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(b)/12 PC Act, 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.
The Vigilance had conducted simultaneous house searches at four places in Cuttack and Khordha districts on Wednesday following allegations of accumulation of disproportionate assets against Behera.
The following assets belonging to Behera and his family members were detected by the Vigilance during the searches: Cash Rs 6,17,460; Gold weighing approx 1.546 Kg worth over Rs 62.04 lakh; one palatial double-storeyed building over plot No.1333-P at Mahanadi Vihar, Cuttack; one flat No.C/51 at Utkal Heights, Pahala Bhubaneswar; 6 plots in prime areas of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar; Fixed deposits, Bank and Insurance deposits worth approx Rs 31 lakhs; 1 four-wheeler and 1 two-wheeler; and household articles worth over Rs 11.37 lakhs.
