Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to combat the ongoing oil crisis, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has announced strict austerity measures aimed at reducing fuel consumption across its operations.
Mayor Subhas Singh has issued firm instructions to all departments to cut down oil usage by 20 percent. The directive comes amid rising fuel prices and supply constraints, with the Mayor emphasizing the need for immediate and collective action to ensure sustainable municipal functioning.
As part of the new guidelines, the CMC has decided to reduce the number of operational vehicles under its fleet. Officials have been instructed to promote carpooling, with multiple officers required to travel together in a single vehicle whenever possible. This measure is expected to significantly lower fuel consumption while maintaining administrative efficiency.
In a further bid to conserve fuel, the civic body has prohibited the use of government vehicles on Mondays and all government holidays. Only essential emergency services will be exempted from this restriction.
Speaking on the decision, Mayor Subhas Singh said the steps are necessary to set an example in resource conservation. “We must lead from the front during this crisis. Every litre of fuel saved will contribute to the larger goal of financial discipline and environmental responsibility,” he added.
The new rules will come into effect immediately, and all departments have been directed to submit weekly reports on fuel consumption to monitor compliance. Senior officials have been tasked with ensuring strict implementation of these measures.
