Abu Dhabi: Hundreds of Odia families from across the United Arab Emirates came together in Abu Dhabi to celebrate Raja Festival 2026, organised by Prabasi Odia Samaj Abu Dhabi (POSA), in a vibrant display of cultural unity and traditional fervour.
The celebration began with traditional rituals and auspicious observances, setting a devotional tone for the event. This was followed by an engaging discussion on the historical and cultural significance of the Raja Festival, with speakers highlighting its association with womanhood, agrarian traditions, and reverence for nature in Odia culture.
The cultural segment of the event featured a series of performances including dance, music, and Raja songs presented by children, youth, and adults. Artistic presentations based on prominent Odia festivals such as Rath Yatra, Nuakhai, Durga Puja, Manabasa Gurubar, Kumar Purnima, Prathamastami, and Raja Festival were among the key attractions, drawing enthusiastic appreciation from the audience.
The festivities also included several competitions and community activities, such as a traditional cake-making contest, a women’s dress-up competition, and entertainment programmes for children. Participants and guests were treated to a variety of traditional Odia delicacies and sweets, which added a nostalgic flavour to the celebration.
The event was coordinated by the active members of POSA, including Satyajit Sahu, Shivani Kar, Suraj Kumar Parida, Pravat Giri, Rakesh Sahu, and Prakash Mishra. Advisors Gyana Mohanty, Mousumee Mohanty, and Susim Amitabh Swain extended guidance and support for the successful execution of the programme.
General Secretary Suraj Kumar Parida and Cultural Secretary Sibanee Kar were specially acknowledged for their effective stage management and coordination, which ensured the smooth flow of the event.
POSA officials stated that the objective of the celebration was to promote Odia language, culture, and traditions among the younger generation living abroad and to strengthen bonds of unity and brotherhood within the diaspora community.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks extended to all guests, participants, and members of the POSA family for their contributions to making the celebration a grand success.
