Bhubaneswar: The State Cabinet on Saturday approved a tender worth Rs 194.07 crore for construction of the spillway for the Brutang Irrigation Project in Nayagarh district.
The Brutang project is the 11th major irrigation project of the State. It targets integrated development of Dasapalla, Nuagaon, Nayagarh, Khandapada and Odagaon blocks.
The project involves a 552-metre earth dam and a saddle spillway for Brutang Reservoir near Manjari village. It includes an extensive distribution system to irrigate 23,300 hectares of cultivable command area in drought-prone regions.
The Cabinet cleared the spillway work for Rs 194,07,28,870.61 excluding GST. Completion is set for 30 months.
On completion, the project will provide assured irrigation to 309 villages: 6 in Dasapalla Block, 95 in Nuagaon, 98 in Nayagarh Block, 95 in Khandapada, and 15 in Odagaon Block.
The project aims to create 23,300 hectares of irrigation potential and improve socio-economic conditions of farmers in the region.
