Malkangiri: In a major haul ahead of the twin elections, the Malkangiri police have seized cash to the tune of Rs 30 lakh from a car entering Odisha from neighbouring Chhattisgarh. The seizure was a part of the police vehicle checking drive before the elections.
According to reports, while the police were checking vehicles near Chalanguda on Malkangiri-Sukma Road last evening, a car was seen coming from adjoining Sukma district in Chhattisgarh. Policemen at the naka stopped the car and during checking, they stumbled upon cash to the tune of Rs 30 lakh.
Neither the driver of the vehicle nor the person travelling by the car could give a satisfactory answer about the cash, said Reagan Kindo, IIC of Malkangiri Model police station.
The police have seized the cash and detained the two for interrogation. An investigation has been launched into the incident to ascertain the source of the money, Kindo added.
