Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet on Friday approved the outcome of the bidding process for a major underground sewerage infrastructure project aimed at strengthening sanitation facilities in key Town Planning Scheme areas of the capital city.
The project, titled “Construction of Underground Sewerage System for Town Planning Scheme (TP-1, TP-2 & TP-3) under the jurisdiction of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA)”, will be executed on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis along with five years of operation and maintenance.
According to the Housing and Urban Development Department, the initiative is part of the State Government’s broader effort to promote planned urban expansion while ensuring environmental sustainability and improved livability in Bhubaneswar.
The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) will oversee planning and coordination of the project, while WATCO will be responsible for execution.
The project involves the construction of a 78.29-km gravity sewer network, 3,642 manholes, six sewage pumping stations, and 7.5 km of pumping mains. It also includes the development of a 20 MLD sewage treatment plant at Paikarapur using Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR) technology.
In addition, the project will facilitate 4,921 new household sewer connections and incorporate a SCADA-based automation system for real-time monitoring and operational control of the sewage network.
The total capital expenditure has been estimated at Rs 175.47 crore (including GST), based on the evaluated financial bid of technically qualified bidders. The contract has been awarded to M/s Technocraft Ventures Limited, New Delhi. The project is scheduled for completion by 30 April 2028.
The initiative will play a crucial role in strengthening urban infrastructure, improving sanitation coverage, and supporting the structured growth of Bhubaneswar’s rapidly expanding residential zones.
