Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to reel under intense summer heat on Wednesday, with day temperatures crossing the 40-degree Celsius mark at several places in the western and northern parts of the state.
According to the India Meteorological Department, Titlagarh recorded the highest maximum temperature of 40.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Bolangir at 40.2 degrees, Sambalpur at 40.1 degrees, Bhawanipatna at 40.0 degrees, and Jharsuguda at 39.8 degrees Celsius.
The state capital Bhubaneswar recorded 37.3 degrees Celsius while Cuttack witnessed 36 degrees Celsius.The IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for Thursday, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty surface winds in the afternoon and evening hours.
Thunderstorms with lightning and winds reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Kendrapara districts.
Thunderstorms with lightning and winds reaching 30-40 kmph are likely at one or two places over Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts.
People have been advised to remain alert to the possibility of lightning, strong winds, and sudden rainfall. The heat is likely to persist in western Odisha even as thunderstorm activity may bring some relief in coastal and northern districts.
