Hindol: A 75-year-old villager was trampled to death by a tusker in Bangu village under Hindol sub-division in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified Shikhar Sahu (75).
According to reports, Shikhar got up in the wee hours of Wednesday and went out of his hut to answer nature’s call. He was accompanied by his grandson Surya Kant. While the duo was urinating outside their hut, a wild tusker lurching in the area attacked Shikhar. While the tusker trampled the elderly man to death, his grandson ran to safety inside the house.
Hearing Surya Kant’s cries for help, local villagers rushed to their house and drove the tusker away from the village. However, by the time the villagers reached the spot, Sikhar was already dead.
On being informed, Forest Department personnel reached the village and sent the body for autopsy

The tragic incident has triggered panic and tension in the area as the villagers blamed the Forest Department for its failure to protect them. The villagers have demanded adequate compensation to the kin of the deceased.
