Bhubaneswar: Ten Odia migrant workers affected by an ammonia gas leak at a seafood processing unit in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district have recovered and returned to Odisha, officials said on Saturday.
The workers had been undergoing treatment at hospitals in Tiruvallur and Chennai after being exposed to the gas leak. Following their recovery, they were discharged and brought back to Bhubaneswar by train, with arrangements facilitated by the state government today.
Of the ten workers, nine are from Keonjhar district and one is from Jajpur district. After their arrival in Bhubaneswar, they were sent to their native villages under the supervision of the District Labour Officer. The nine workers from Keonjhar were transported in a special van, while the worker from Jajpur was sent separately by car.
The Odisha Labour Commissioner confirmed their safe return in a post on the social media platform X.
Earlier on June 27, as many as 62 Odia migrant workers who were also affected in the incident were brought back from Chennai and sent to their respective villages after receiving necessary assistance and medical care.
